What if Advanced HeroQuest took place aboard a derelict spacecraft? Replace the adventurers with Space Marines, fill the rooms with Orks and Genestealers, and those familiar dungeon corridors become the decks of an enormous ship.
That is the idea behind this Advanced HeroQuest conversion for Space Crusade and Warhammer 40,000 miniatures.
Taking Advanced HeroQuest into space
Advanced HeroQuest has the makings of a science-fiction adventure: unexplored corridors, sealed doors, dangerous rooms and the uncertainty of what lies ahead. Films such as Alien make it easy to imagine that same dungeon-crawling experience in space.
Space Crusade and Space Hulk took their own approaches. What I wanted was to bring the science-fiction setting to Advanced HeroQuest itself.
With my Advanced HeroQuest Map Generator, you can generate random layouts for your own adventures. Use the AHQ tiles to represent a spaceship, an Imperial station, a vast building or whatever setting you have in mind. The tiles still look like a dungeon, but the miniatures and the mission give those rooms a different purpose.
What you need
- Advanced HeroQuest dungeon tiles for the rooms and corridors.
- Space Crusade or Warhammer 40,000 miniatures for your squad and its opponents.
- The map generator to create the layout.
- The character sheets linked below for the Space Marines and aliens.
Sentinel V: an Imperial station gone silent
Sentinel V stopped transmitting six weeks ago. Now your Space Marines have been sent to investigate.
This Advanced HeroQuest adventure uses miniatures from Milton Bradley's Space Crusade and its two expansions, Eldar Attack and Mission Dreadnought. Your squad explores the Imperial watch-station one deck at a time, encountering a different mix of enemies as it progresses.
- Docking Spires: Gretchin and Orks.
- Cargo Holds: Orks, Nobz and Chaos Androids.
- Reactor Sumps: a Genestealer brood lurking in the coolant.
- Command Spire: Chaos Space Marines and Dreadnoughts.
- The Sentinel Core: Eldar, and nothing else.

If you have Advanced HeroQuest tiles and a collection of Space Crusade miniatures, this gives you another way to get them onto the table. The next door could open onto an Ork-infested cargo hold or a reactor room full of Genestealers.
